Shawn Skeir

Shawn Skeir is a distinguished visual artist born in 1965 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and currently based in Toronto, Canada. Renowned for his bold use of color, texture, and design, Skeir creates striking and expressive works across various mediums, including acrylics, mixed media, and digital art.

 

Educated at the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design, George Brown College, and the Digital Media Studio's Certificate program in Electronic Publishing, Skeir continues to expand his skills, recently completing an Introductory Ceramics Course at the Toronto School of Art.

As the artist-in-residence and director of Skeir Studio, Shawn has significantly influenced the Toronto art scene. He has also served as a guest art instructor with the Toronto District School Board and as a jury member for the Queen West Art Crawl.

 

Skeir's work has been showcased in numerous solo and group exhibitions, including "Graffiti" at Elaine Fleck Gallery (2024) and "New Vistas" at Northern Contemporary Gallery (2023). His commissioned works, such as the "Forever Yonge" hoarding mural and "Victory Mountain" digital print, are prominently displayed in public and commercial spaces.

 

Throughout his career, Skeir has received multiple grants and awards, including the Art Project Assistance Grant from the Toronto Arts Council. His work has been featured in publications like Distillery District Magazine and Canada's Style at Home.
