

Gulay Alpay
Gulay Alpay is a Turkish-Canadian visual artist with over three decades of artistic practice. She holds a BFA and MFA in Painting from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in Istanbul, Türkiye, and has expanded her creative pursuits through a certificate in Visual and Digital Arts from Humber College in Canada. Currently, she furthers her studies in Indigenous Art and Culture at OCAD University.
Throughout her career, Gulay has developed a unique artistic approach characterized by playfulness, spirited expression, and the use of diverse media that offer depth and textured complexity. Her works have been exhibited internationally, and she recently completed a studio residency at Flick the Switch in Toronto, Canada.
Gulay’s inspirations stem from the empowerment of women and the beauty of nature, including translating the sounds of the natural world, such as whale melodies, into vibrant and visually striking masterpieces. Through her creations, she invites viewers to engage in closer inspection, exploring the nuances and intricate layers that make up her artistic narrative.
