Chris Carbone

Born in Toronto, Chris Carbone has been captivated by the world of art from a young age, discovering a natural talent for drawing early in life. With over 40 years of professional practice, Chris's journey as an artist has been one of self-discovery and exploration, leading to the development of distinct techniques that create unique visual experiences in each painting.

Chris aims to capture luminosity and drama, creating a strong sense of atmosphere. His paintings begin in his imagination, exploring the connection between abstraction and suggested landscape environments. He strives to find a delicate balance between the two, resulting in captivating and thought-provoking imagery. The interplay of color, contrast, light, and darkness in his paintings is a source of endless fascination.

Daily observations and experiences stored in his memory and subconscious come to life on the canvas. Chris draws inspiration from urban and rural settings, dynamic sunsets, dramatic cloud formations, and distant views of land and water bodies. His process is immediate, spontaneous, intuitive, and contemplative, allowing for “happy accidents” along the way. Observations, reflections, and decisions are made in the moment, shaping the painting at every stage. Each painting has a complexity that hints at something possibly recognizable. This freely expressive approach incorporates an element of random abandon and risk in every composition, while multiple layers of paint are built up to create the final work of art.

Chris Carbone's paintings have been exhibited in numerous galleries across Canada and have been collected internationally. His fascination with painting techniques continues to inspire him today, as he maintains a dynamic and engaging approach through improvisation. Chris's work invites viewers to explore the delicate balance between abstraction and reality, creating a captivating and thought-provoking visual experience.
